Ministry is a sacred calling, but it is not a calling meant to be carried alone.

Behind every sermon preached, every family counseled, every hospital visit made, every church led, and every community served is a pastor who also needs encouragement, friendship, spiritual covering, and moments of renewal. At the Southern Pacific District of the Assemblies of God, we believe that caring for our churches begins with caring for the men and women God has called to lead them.

That conviction is at the heart of the Office of Pastoral Care (OPC).

Under the care and leadership of the Superintendent’s Office, and especially near to the heart of Superintendent William Rodriguez, OPC exists to champion the lives, families, health, and ministries of Southern Pacific District ministers. Our desire is simple: healthy pastors leading healthy churches.

Pastors Need Pastors Too

Pastoral ministry can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be demanding. Ministers regularly carry the spiritual and emotional needs of others while navigating the responsibilities of leadership, family, personal growth, and their own walk with Jesus.

OPC provides a place where ministers can be reminded that they are more than the ministry they lead.

Before we are pastors, leaders, preachers, or ministers, we are sons and daughters of God.

That is why OPC is committed to providing spiritual guidance, pastoral support, mentorship, encouragement, and meaningful resources for ministers throughout every season of their calling. From newly credentialed ministers beginning their journey to seasoned pastors who have faithfully served for decades, our desire is that no minister in the Southern Pacific District feels that they have to walk alone.

Our English- and Spanish-speaking pastors are part of one ministerial family, united by our calling to serve Christ and His Church.

The OPC Retreat: Rest. Recharge. Realign.

One of the most meaningful expressions of this mission happens each spring through our annual OPC Retreat.

For three days, pastors are invited to step away from the demands of ministry and intentionally create space for what matters most: Jesus, rest, relationships, and renewal.

The OPC Retreat is not simply another conference to attend or another ministry responsibility to fulfill. It is designed to be a place to breathe.

A place to rest from the constant demands of leadership.

A place to recharge spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.

And most importantly, a place to realign our hearts and lives with Jesus.

Jesus Himself demonstrated the importance of withdrawing from the demands surrounding Him to spend time with the Father. “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” — Luke 5:16

We believe our ministers deserve that same opportunity—to step away, hear God’s voice again, strengthen important relationships, receive from others, and return home renewed for the calling God has entrusted to them.

Supporting the Whole Minister

Pastoral care extends beyond a single retreat.

Throughout the year, the OPC team works to provide resources, mentorship, spiritual guidance, encouragement, and covering for all levels of credentialed ministers throughout the Southern Pacific District.

We want to walk alongside ministers not only when ministry is flourishing, but also through transitions, difficult seasons, new assignments, personal challenges, and moments when a trusted pastoral voice is needed.

Scripture reminds us:

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

This is the heart of pastoral care. We carry one another. We pray for one another. We encourage one another. And we remind one another that none of us were called to ministry alone.

A Family of Ministries Serving Our Ministers

OPC also works alongside ministries throughout the Southern Pacific District that address the unique needs of pastors, leaders, churches, and ministry families.

Through Church Planting, we encourage and equip leaders who are stepping out in faith to establish new churches and reach new communities.

Through Women in Ministry, we champion and strengthen women who have answered God’s call to ministry and leadership.

Through Pastors’ Kids Ministry, we recognize that ministry affects the entire family and intentionally create opportunities to encourage and support the children growing up within pastoral homes.

And through Más y Mejores, Spanish-speaking pastors—especially those entering new seasons of pastoral leadership—receive practical mentoring and coaching in the foundational principles and essential practices of healthy ministry.

While each ministry has a unique assignment, they share a common heartbeat:

to strengthen the minister, support the family, equip the leader, and build healthier churches.

Your District is more than an organization you belong to. It is a ministerial family committed to walking alongside you.

Our prayer is that OPC will continue to be a place where ministers find friendship, wisdom, spiritual covering, encouragement, restoration, and renewed strength for the journey ahead.

Because when we invest in pastors, we strengthen families.

When we strengthen pastors and their families, we strengthen churches.

And when healthy churches are filled with Spirit-empowered people, communities can be transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
